Elimination of Conditional Permanent Residence Requirement

On 3 May 2017, the Canadian government (Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship) published an amendment to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations eliminating the conditional permanent residence requirement.  Effective 18 April 2017, spouses or partners are no longer required to live with their sponsors for two years in order to maintain their permanent residence status.
