Research and Publication

PLEIS-NB has a well-deserved reputation for creating high caliber law information products. We have partnered with and/or been engaged to research, write and publish plain language materials on various legal topics by numerous government departments. We are pleased to work collaboratively, as resources permit, with numerous community organizations. As a non-profit, registered charity, PLEIS-NB is able to offer a valuable and inexpensive service for helping New Brunswickers know the law.

Since our creation in 1989, PLEIS-NB has produced over 100 bilingual law information products – booklets, handbooks, guides, pamphlets and more.  Our publication program is the backbone of our public legal education service.  All our publications are available on our website.

PLEIS-NB has extensive expertise in researching legal topics, extracting the most salient information and then sharing it with the general public or specific target audiences. We know how to write in plain-language and culturally sensitive ways. Often, the information we produce is intended for the most vulnerable people in society – individuals who may have many challenges in access to information generally, and accessing information about their legal rights and responsibilities in particular. We try to address some of the challenges that vulnerable people face by making our law-information easy to read and readily available from a range of front line agencies across the province. We have  created information specifically for youth, seniors, people with low literacy skills, abused women, immigrants, and Aboriginal people, to name a few. Generally, are materials are free.

We also convert some of our law information materials into “alternative” formats such as audio tapes, Braille, games and quizzes. We are always mindful of how design and layout of the information can help promote readability.

PLEIS-NB is also experienced and adept at creating pro-active dissemination plans to ensure that the information actually reaches the intended audiences.

Contact us to discuss how PLEIS-NB can work with your organization or department to produce new law information materials.
